There are two ways to join Dot. We recommend the email-based login for easier collecting and painting.

1. Log in with your existing wallet like MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow, etc.

2. Log in using Google or Apple auth (powered by Privy). If you choose Google/Apple, you'll need to send Base ETH to your wallet to start.

Buying Paint

To start painting, you'll need at least one paint cartridge. You can buy one in the . Paint cartridges never run out, so one is enough for daily use but you might want a variety for more options.

Painting Cards

Creating pixel art on Dot is called painting. You'll use a 16x16 grid and your paint cartridge to draw. Once you publish your card, other players can collect it, and you'll earn ETH each time.

Playing Games

Dot features hidden games and challenges. Some require collecting paint cartridges to level up, while others involve using Dot cards in battle games. Explore and discover!

Paint Streaks

Paint every day to grow your paint streak and move up the leaderboard. Each month there are new challenges to earn rewards.

July's Reward: Earn free paint if you hold a streak greater than 20 on July 31.

Onchain Pixel Art

Putting art fully onchain for Dot cards ensures absolute authenticity and ownership, making each card verifiable and tamper-proof.

This transparency builds trust, creating a secure and reliable ecosystem for collectors and players.

Onchain art also guarantees permanence and accessibility, protecting artists' work and enabling innovative gameplay features.

Paint Cartridges

Every paint cartridge has a unique palette of colors containing either 2, 4, 8, or 16 colors out of the 256 colors that exist in the Dot Matrix.

You need a paint cartridge to paint on Dot. Once you have purchased paint cartridges, it is free to paint and publish Dot cards.

Publish Dot Card

After you have completed your painting, it's time to publish! Publishing your card is completely free and does not cost any gas.

Once you publish a Dot card, it is available for other players to discover and collect in packs for 7 days.

The Dot Universe

Dot is where user-generated pixel art is transformed into the future of hyper-casual social gaming — onchain. Picture yourself creating unique pixel art cards that are more than just art—they’re powerful game pieces in a dynamic, ever-evolving universe.

Special Feature Cards

Each time you complete a level in the Cartridge Cult, you get to enter the library for a chance to win special edition Dot Cards that unlock prizes and features.

Some Dot Cards unlock special features. Some are redeemable for free cards or paint. Some are quite valuable.

Every Dot Card has one or two Auras depending on how pure it is. Auras are determined by the colors used to paint each card. A card that is predominantly red might be the Vulcan aura while a card that is mostly blue might be Aqua.

A Dot card that only has one aura is a Pure Aura card. A Dot card with a mix of colors can lead to a Dual Aura card.

Paint Cartridge Packs

Paint Cartridges are sold in mystery packs of 3 paint cartridges or 5 paint cartridges. Bigger packs are a better deal.

Dot Cards

Every Dot Card contains collectible pixel art created by a member of the community. Each card holds special traits including:

• Painter Name, Username and Cartridge Cult status.

Dot Card Packs

Packs are sold in mystery packs of 7 Dot Cards or 15 Dot Cards. The cards inside are randomly selected from Dot Cards that were created by artists on Dot within the last 7 days.

The pack fee pays for Artist Rewards, Prize Pools and other games and rewards within the Dot Universe depending on where you use them.

After you buy a pack, it is instantly ripped open to reveal your new Dot Cards. Each individual Dot Card is an NFT on Base that is minted to your wallet.

The Dot Cartridge Cult is a game where you are rewarded for your talents as a dedicated and skillful trader.

Your goal is to collect all 256 colors in the Dot Matrix by collecting and trading paint cartridges.

Collecting Colors

Every paint cartridge contains 2, 4, 8 or 16 colors. Holding these paint cartridges contributes towards your unique color collection.

You must acquire enough paint cartridges so that you hold at least one of all 256 colors.

For example, holding this paint cartridge would give you 8 colors. Owning two copies of this same paint cartridge would still only give you 8 colors.

Select Paint Cartridge

You need a paint cartridge to paint on Dot. Once you own a paint cartridge, it is free to paint and publish Dot cards. Paint Cartridges never run out of paint. You can only use one paint cartridge when painting. If you try to switch paint cartridges, it will clear your work and start with a fresh canvas.

Painting Pixel Art

Select a color in your palette and start painting with your finger or mouse. Pixel art is an artform based on simplicity, reduction and creativity. Lean into the constraints and have fun creating a tiny masterpiece.

There are no tools like move or undo. If you make a mistake, just paint over it and keep going. Take your time and enjoy the process.

Inspiration

Take a look around you and draw something you love. Maybe it's your favorite food, animal or sport. Maybe it's a pattern from your favorite t-shirt. There are no mistakes, only happy accidents.

Using the Swap Shop

The Swap Shop helps you swap paint cartridges to get a specific color you are missing in the Dot Matrix.

Creating Swaps

1. Go to the Swap Shop [ ] and select one of the colors you need.

1. On the color-specific page [ex: ] where you can click "Create Swap" to begin a new swap.

1. Now it's time to create a new swap! Select 1-3 cartridges you are willing to trade for a single cartridge that includes the color you need. The more colors you offer, the quicker your swap will be accepted. Weakest Offer: one 4 color cartridge (may not get accepted) Strongest Offer: three 16-color cartridges (usually accepted in hours) Your best bet is usually to offer 8-16 colors total.

1. Once you have the cartridges selected, click "Make Offer" to deposit them in the Dot Vault. This will move the NFTs out of your wallet and into the Dot Vault. You can cancel your offer any time before it's accepted and get your NFTs back.

Accepting Swaps

You can see a list of all open and available swaps on

If you own the color they are looking for, you are eligible to view the offer and accept it. If you don't own this color yet, you cannot accept the swap.

For offers you are eligible to accept, you can click "View Offer" to get more details. This lets you see exactly which colors you will gain and select which cartridges you want to swap.

Cancelling Swaps

You can view all your currently open swaps on the "YOURS" tab in the Swap Shop. Hover over any open offer and click Cancel to close the offer. This will move the Paint Cartridge NFTs you originally deposited from the Dot Vault back into your wallet.

Paint Parties are vibrant, themed events where participants create new pixel art cards based on a central theme within a limited time. Usually 1-3 days long. These parties can be purely for enjoyment or offer exciting prizes for the best creations, adding a fun element of competition.

Community Creation

Grab a themed paint cartridge to dive in! Sometimes they're free, and other times you can unlock them with ETH or a tweet. We're always innovating to make participation easy and inclusive for everyone.

Community Voting

Paint Parties are free to enter. You can paint as many Dot cards as you want. Once you have painted and published your submission, other players can vote for your art and mint it.

Each party is a bit different but typically each person gets a few votes per day to vote for their favorites. Bonus votes are applied if a fan mints your card too.

Farcaster Frames

Voting is also enabled directly within Farcaster Frames. Artists can share their card link on Farcaster/Warpcast and get people to vote for them with one click.

Prizes for Creators

Prizes change for each party but typically include ETH, free paint or free card packs for the winners.

Remixable Assets

After a Paint Party, the artwork created is all licensed under CC0. Dot has used it to create assets for different gaming assets like icons. They can also be remixed into stickers, merch, memes and more.

Buying Packs of Paint Cartridges

One method of collecting colors is through buying packs of paint cartridges in the shop.

This is the fastest way to acquire all 256 colors and can be done in one day but is definitely the most expensive way.

Buying Paint Cartridges on OpenSea

Another method is sweeping paint cartridges that users are for sale on OpenSea. Usually there are some good deals to be found but hunting for specific colors is very difficult.

Using the Swap Shop

Another method is using the Swap Shop. You can post offers for colors you are looking for and deposit paint cartridges you are willing to swap.
